Owner note

Mara On Quiet Charts.

I founded What The Chart in 2015 after nine years laying out machinery, logistics and healthcare trade titles. I spent enough years inside Yorkshire publishing offices to know that a trade magazine chart has a different job from a conference slide. It has to sit beside a dealer quote, a product photograph and half a page of careful copy without elbowing any of them out of the way. The best ones make the reader trust the page a little more. They show where the number came from, let the axis behave itself, make the small print legible, and avoid the temptation to turn every percentage point into theatre. If a production editor can drop the artwork into an 188mm text column and still sleep on press night, I count that as good design.
